The bit about freshly acquired football fans from the World Cup looking for another interest is so true. I stumbled on WAFCON yesterday and as someone who hated football until World Cup semifinal, I sat to watch it but noticed it was off.
The pitch was empty, the entire thing looked as if no thought went into it.
This is exactly how what other people from around the world trying to take an interest in the tournament would feel, which is sad. Women’s football has seemingly always been like that — not-so-full stadiums and less hype. And it is even more annoying because there was an opportunity to turn that around since the biggest football event just ended. I could go on and on about how WAFCON is being handled, but nevertheless, I hope it all gets better.
