Can we please have paid days off at work for six monthsss???
Okay, just kidding! But seriously, I feel all I came to do on earth is work, work and work. Take me back to the days when my mum already has my day figured out and all I have to do is just roll out of the bed and get into the shower while the day sorts itself out.
Can you imagine that an average person has to work to at least fend for his or herself? I mean, it is in moments like these, I wish I was a trust fund kid. Let me be spending old money while you all figure out life.
It doesn’t help that employees are being enslaved all in the name of a job. What do you mean that I have to sit at my desk and work from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday only to earn less than $200 a month. Are you playing??
My counterparts abroad are earning way beyond this and you want me to settle for less? In our quarantined economy? On a more serious note, no jokes here.
I actually do not have any issue working a 9-5 but at least let the pay be worth the workload. No wonder, there is a high risk of depression and anxiety at work places. I believe everyone who works for an organization, company or firm should have a decent work-life balance, should not be underpaid and should be entitled to adequate work benefits.
Over the years, I’ve experienced what it is like to work a 9-5 and mine wasn’t really something to love.
As your buddy and growing girlboss, I have compiled the ultimate employee rule book.
No more cutting corners, feeling less of yourself and getting anxious over your job.
Rule No. 1
Limit all work commitments and communications to work hours alone. I’m as guilty of this as real as bread can be. The last time I found myself doing a work related task around 8pm, I sure had to snap myself out of it. Like what? Did I just throw my work-life balance out of the window? *gasps*
Rule No. 2
Never settle for less. This is where the slave masters in form of employers come in. Have you ever seen a job role so decorated as something magnanimous only to discover that it is way beyond what it should be? Talmabout coupling tasks and duties meant for two people. Why do you have to be the HR and Marketing Coordinator? Except you’re being paid duly for the two roles, that’s alright but if not? *runnnn*
Rule No. 3
It’s okay to say no sometimes. You don’t have to say “yes sure, I can do that” or “absolutely, why not.” I get this. You might want to prove to your colleagues or managers that you know your job and that you are capable but please if there is some one else who can do it better, let them! For your sanity and for the welfare of the workplace in general, let them do it. Especially if it’s way beyond your job description. Once again let them do it. If it goes awry in the long run, it is safe to say your job might be on the line.
I feel like I wrote this angry or like I have been treated so bad at my jobs to arrive at this. Absolutely not. But I’ve had my fair share of employee chronicles and to be honest, I just want the best for you.
Have you had crazy experiences at your workplace? Kindly share in the comments.
And what’s one employee rule you would give your fellow employee?
