If it isn't a new ChatGPT feature rivalling a feature Claude developed the week before, it would be a gazillion posts telling you how to create better content using AI but without it being a slop.</p><p>I mean, it's a whole lot that has a mix of good and not-so-good feel. All in all, most people seem tired. And finding the balance to keep up with new tech is also overwhelming. </p><div class="pullquote"><p><em><strong>so what's actually happening? like fr</strong></em></p></div><h3>mass production of ai slop is hurting our feeds</h3><blockquote><p><em><strong>When everyone (including AI) can generate content, value and thought-leadership becomes the currency</strong>.</em></p><p>Let's be honest, how much AI slop have you consumed this past week alone? Quite a number right except you are one of the numerous people intentionally avoiding AI content. I totally feel you. It is farther-reaching than we can currently see. </p><p>On the other hand, it has enabled people to create beyond their regular capabilities as well as assisted a lot of us in making our work easier. While I use AI regularly in between tasks, I make sure not to excessively depend on it. I tend to infuse my ideas and thought process into it a lot because honestly, it does hallucinate and it's not ideal to use it without your critical thinking. </p><p>However, as people are using it in this balanced way, some others aren't and that's where this AI slop discussion comes in. The more AI slop we see on our feeds, the more social media apps are enabling it. While some of these platforms now label AI-generated content so users can know they are viewing one, it still doesn't do much. Instead, they are creating newer features to make more realistic ones. This has caused AI fatigue in a lot of us and we wonder why we wouldn't be tired of the internet. </p><p>Social media trends in 2024 were more of long-form content vs short-form content. It was also more authentic behind-the-scenes content, a day in the life, and a peek into the creator's nature. At that point, AI had started infiltrating the scene but not as much. </p><p>Come late 2025 and present-day 2026, people aren't arguing over long or short form content. They are seated deep in their creative pockets trying to create something more valuable. So now, it isn't if you are posting more, doing more bts shots or taking us through your day-to-day activities. It's a completely different time now. People are more eager to see what value you are actually offering beyond surface-level whipped AI content. </p><p>Users are asking questions: Was there any human work done behind this? Or was this a shabby AI idea with no depth? Whether creators and brands like it or not, AI isn't going to suddenly stop soon, as I mentioned, it is far-reaching. Working quicker than the speed of light. </p><p>The need for real, value-driven content has never been more needed. Brands need to make sales, as creators need to make an income. If the digital media apps keep favouring mass-produced AI slop content over content that has a good percentage of human brain work, then it is an actual problem. </p></blockquote><h3>meanwhile, people are going offline </h3><blockquote><p><em>The cool kids are calling it &#8220;going analogue,&#8221; which is a reduced or absolutely zero consumption of digital media for a speculated period of time.</em></p><p><em><a href="https://www.dazeddigital.com/life-culture/article/69449/1/is-2026-the-year-of-analogue-tiktok-trend-social-media-offline?utm_source=chatgpt.com">Dazed</a></em> reported on the growing &#8220;analogue&#8221; movement: people deliberately moving away from hyper-digital life through film cameras, offline hobbies, printed media, dumb phones, vinyl, journaling, and reduced screen dependency. </p><p>Does that sound cool? Yes. Would I do it? Who knows. However, the entire idea behind this is rejuvenating. The internet is fast-moving, doom scrolling is becoming a sickness and overconsumption of digital media is mentally draining. So the idea of going back to the life before all these makes sense. </p><p>Paperback books are actually cool. Hobbies like gardening, knitting, painting <em>etc.</em> should actually be rekindled by people who once actively did them. It sort of feels like a quiet rebellion and a call for reclamation of what really matters to humans.</p><p>Maybe this is one act that resets the tiring nature of the internet for a while, at least until we crave being online again. </p></blockquote><p>From AI slop surge to the rise in going offline, amongst others, I think the internet has done its part. Doomscrolling, social media highlight reel, the pressure to show up online, fast-moving trends and algorithm changes; at this point, we all should be getting paid for consuming it all. Right?</p><p><em>How has the internet treated you this week?</em></p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" I love free form, I&#8217;d rather write a list of things to do in a week and trust my brain to pick each one at its convenience &#8212; when it&#8217;s able, when it matters, when the timing feels right. </p></div><p>My lack of a <em>rigid</em> structure doesn&#8217;t eat into my productivity at all. It&#8217;s just me being productive in a <strong>different way</strong>. Most times, when it feels impossible to finish a task, I tell myself to calm down. And over time, after multiple anxieties or fear of being a procrastinator, I&#8217;ve learnt something: I work in three ways.</p><blockquote><p><strong>Free form (my ideal way)</strong>: letting my brain pick the task at the right time, not at a structural must-do timing (except for tight work deadlines).</p><p><strong>Pressure</strong>: the deadline is closing in, something has to give way, and suddenly I move. It&#8217;s not my preferred method, but it works sometimes.</p><p><strong>Mood form</strong>: trusting myself enough to know I&#8217;ll finish something as long as it matters. As long as it&#8217;s important to me.</p></blockquote><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png" width="999" height="249" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:249,&quot;width&quot;:999,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:36852,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/png&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/i/194540769?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!d01d!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F11e68acf-a7d9-4457-9524-53eb4063bdc6_999x249.png 1456w" sizes="100vw" loading="lazy"></picture><div></div></div></a></figure></div><p>Some days, none of these work. Those are the days when I&#8217;m just not ready. And I&#8217;ve learned to accept that too. What I&#8217;ve realised is, <strong>the way culture paints lifestyle habits isn't always realistic</strong>. It assumes everyone&#8217;s brain works the same way. It doesn&#8217;t. </p><p>We&#8217;re sold this idea that if you follow the system: <em>the right planner, the right routine, the right discipline</em>, everything will fall into place. Some of us don&#8217;t work that way and that&#8217;s not a flaw, that&#8217;s just how we&#8217;re built. The goal here is to know yourself well enough to work with how you actually function, not against it. Some people thrive with proper planning while some people thrive without any. Most of us are somewhere in between, and we spend way too much time trying to be something we&#8217;re not.</p><div class="pullquote"><p>Yes, the planners are great to have. The time blocks and timers work well also but if you still don&#8217;t get as much work done with all that &#8212; then maybe it&#8217;s time to actually understand your most productive moments and the steps it took you to get there. </p></div><p>That tells you, when best you can fulfil your work tasks and how much planning needs to go into what you do. Light and minimal plans work for me. For you, it might be sticky notes pasted in tactical places to propel you. And for another, it might be the use of reminders, time blocks and other essential tools. The aim is to find your <em>mode</em> before spiralling over being lazy or being a time slacker. </p><blockquote><p>From my routines, time has taught me not to overly plan or make things super perfect. Some things are better when they flow freely instead of being bound by times or seasons. And that&#8217;s not laziness. That&#8217;s just knowing how you work.</p></blockquote><p>Are you the rigid type of planner, a light and loose planner like me or are you more of an " <em>anyhow it comes " type? </em>Would love to know your thoughts.</p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png" width="999" height="249" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:249,&quot;width&quot;:999,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:39008,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/png&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/i/194540769?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!drIY!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F8136d3f4-f95c-4c20-8f52-63be98a267ed_999x249.png 1456w" sizes="100vw" loading="lazy"></picture><div></div></div></a></figure></div><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Thanks for reading Noa! You find joy and fulfilment in being the saviour of the household. Not because you are proud but because you have a genuine love for being able to help others. What feels like help becomes exploitation in an instant. You are now being used as a constant source for money. Your relatives care more about themselves. Even while you are drowning in your own needs, they still ask you for money. And guess what? You didn&#8217;t stop. Your best friend advised you against it: &#8220;<strong>Keep some money aside to invest, save as a trust fund for your children</strong>.&#8221; You didn't take it seriously. Until something happened; sickness loomed, you became weak and scared. Then you decided to fake your death and watch how your family would react to it and treat your children. You plan to watch it from behind the scenes via installed cameras in your house. That didn&#8217;t go well, because they showed their true colours. They didn&#8217;t care at all. They took ownership of your lovely house, sold your cars, and threw your children out. You even lost your best friend in the midst of it. I mean, this is a no-brainer, right? <em>The world is wicked; be careful of who you trust</em>, they say.</p><p>It may sound easy, but it can be tough to see the difference between black and white. This is especially true if you&#8217;re as trusting or big-hearted as Aderonke in the film. She noticed her siblings taking advantage, but she let it go. She chose to keep trusting them. While at it, her friend also betrayed her.</p><p>In life, we can't always know others' intentions. At every point, it&#8217;s important to trust your discernment, the nudging of your spirit, and your wisdom. Observe how close people relate to you. Is it weird all a sudden? Fickle or off? Are you being too open? Are you suddenly letting go of boundaries? Observe carefully and look for signs. When you feel uncomfortable, trace that feeling to what might be wrong. If it's worth reacting to, be sure to act on it immediately.</p></blockquote><p style="text-align: center;">&#8226;&#8226;&#8226;</p><blockquote><p><em><strong>lesson 2 - money that isn't tracked feels like a lot</strong></em></p><p>I noticed that Aderonke, even with her wealth, didn&#8217;t have clear financial plans for her future.</p><p>She had a successful real estate business, but she was unclear about a backup plan for her young kids in elementary school. She&#8217;s a young widow. She could have easily saved a sum of money in a trust fund for her kids as she was being generous to everyone else. That mattered because, while she faked her death and watched her home through the cameras, her kids' future was already uncertain. If she had truly died, there would have been no safety net for them. It would have been a case of grace to grass for them at such a young age.</p><p>I don&#8217;t think being financially wise is something foreign in this age. Regardless of how wealthy you are, saving is as simple as keeping some funds aside from your regular expenses. This will serve as emergency funds later. It also helps you spend wisely. As the adage says, <em>cut your coat according to your size</em>. Often, money that isn't tracked feels like a lot. But once it's spent, you realise it could have been managed better.</p></blockquote><p style="text-align: center;">&#8226;&#8226;&#8226;</p><blockquote><p><em><strong>lesson 3 - embrace life outside the hustle culture</strong></em></p><p>One last thing I noticed in BTS was how much Aderonke focused on her business. Not that it was a bad thing, but she could have done more outside of it to improve the quality of her social life.</p><p>She wasn&#8217;t interested in dating, and she had a very small circle of friends. In her case, she felt fulfilled with life. So, she focused completely on her business. It seemed like she did that to stay busy or to cope with her grief. There were scenes where she felt tired and drained. It wasn&#8217;t clear if that led to her being sick, but it definitely had an effect.</p><p>It&#8217;s super easy to automate life. If one thing goes wrong, we find the next best thing to divert the energy into. While that always works for good sometimes, in other cases it might not always be favourable. Above life tantrums, remember you can only go through life with a healthy mind and body. Taking time out to rest when you feel you are hitting the limits shouldn't be an Olympic sport.</p></blockquote><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png" width="999" height="249" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/f8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:249,&quot;width&quot;:999,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:36852,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/png&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/i/194470127?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rQXT!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ff8f17049-19b6-4242-97f0-68b7f98bc2c3_999x249.png 1456w" sizes="100vw" loading="lazy"></picture><div></div></div></a></figure></div><h3>we have learned the lesson; what&#8217;s next?</h3><p>Obviously, you weren&#8217;t the one in the movie, but you get the whole story of how it went. which says: &#8220;<strong>everyone has their ministry, maybe yours isn&#8217;t a get ready with me. Maybe yours doesn&#8217;t involve viral hooks or trending sounds. Maybe you are being called to share something else, something differently. For yourself, for everyone else, answer the call</strong>.&#8221; </p><p>That is as real as it sounds. Whilst everyone is chasing being a software engineer or becoming a startup founder because people have stepped foot into it and it worked, there is someone else who is definitely not going to ever have these job titles and still get it right in life.</p><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Thanks for reading The Girlboss Lifestyle (TGL)! The fact that it is out there and <strong>ten or more people agree with it</strong> doesn&#8217;t make it the next big thing for you. We are all called to something and that might look like the most mundane and uninteresting thing society has ever seen but then it&#8217;s for YOU. </p><p>For another person, it can be the most hippy and socially aware thing which might just feel more right, but it doesn&#8217;t make your unconventional and purposeful path wrong. The faster we all come to terms with purpose, callings and mandates, the better good for us all.</p><p>In between the rush, the grind and the locking in, I fear most people aren&#8217;t honoring their true call. I don&#8217;t blame the people, I blame society for how it demands much from us. The present generation seems to be rolling into one bubble from another. It&#8217;s one thing or the next. The world is moving fast. We keep hearing stuff along the lines of; <em>the ones who don&#8217;t move forward will be the one who gets left behind</em>. I bet our parents breezed through their generation without the <em>hullabaloo</em> we are currently witnessing. It might have been a different kind then but there was definitely no AI and a skyrocketing technology boom. </p><p>All that being said, one of my favourite verses in the Bible beholds this line that says<strong> &#8220;</strong><em><strong>be still and know that I am God</strong></em>.&#8221; I love it because it sorts of recalibrates your mind from the idea of you being in total control to the fact that God himself brought you into the world. That alone tells you to <strong>hold your cup and just pause a bit</strong>. Now society doesn&#8217;t enable us to actually do this or in fact, <em>be still</em>. Like I said, it&#8217;s always one thing or the other which often feels like a disadvantage or being on the wrong side of the coin.</p><blockquote><p>If you wouldn&#8217;t take anything away from this piece, take this: the world puts out a lot of demands and that in itself can look like swimming into the whims of societal pressure especially in the age of digital media whilst neglecting yourself and how you are meant to reason as an individual. </p></blockquote><blockquote><p>Remember why you are here: to live right and fulfill purpose. Your purpose may not lie in the trends or popular stuff, it may all just be in a version that is totally different. It could also be vice versa and while I can&#8217;t tell you what is and what isn&#8217;t, do well to always know that your life isn&#8217;t entirely in your hands but in God&#8217;s. While He equips us to take actions and make decisions for ourselves, it is as important as ever to often go back to talking with and believing in Him because trust me<strong>, He sure knows it all</strong>. So do well to hold your peace and be still. God&#8217;s got you always. &#129295;&#127997;</p></blockquote><p><em><strong>What do you think YOUR actual calling is? But is it really the ultimate work rule to live by? Or are there other ways to achieve success?</p><blockquote><p><em><strong>Welcome to Society Unplugged &#8212; where I dissect and discuss societal and cultural issues one topic at a time. It seems to be a regular norm and the way of life for most people. Simply put, <em>work hard to get paid well.</em> Emphasis on <strong>extremely</strong> hard. I have observed, studied, and gotten a glimpse of what the world is becoming and I can't be more glad that the perception of hustle culture is getting its backlash. The era of ease is here and some Generation Zs are not having it the old way. Rather than forge on traditional work patterns, they are craving <strong>balance</strong>, <strong>peace</strong>, and <strong>self-love</strong>. This has propelled a lot of them (women especially) to become their own bosses, call the shots at work, and leave unsatisfying workplaces. But how did this shift take place?</p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe now&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/subscribe?"><span>Subscribe now</span></a></p><h2><strong>What exactly is hustle culture?</strong></h2><p>Hustle culture refers to a mindset and workplace norm that glorifies relentless work, long hours, and constant productivity as the primary path to success, often at the expense of rest and personal well-being. It emerged prominently during the 1990s and 2000s entrepreneurial boom, particularly in tech hubs like <em><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_Valley">Silicon Valley</a></em>, where overwork became normalized among innovators and startups. The philosophy of &#8220;go hard or go home&#8221; spread through motivational rhetoric urging people to &#8220;hustle harder&#8221; for wealth, fame, or career advancement. </p><p>With the rise of technology, changes in the economic system, and the overall nature of what the modern society has evolved into, hustle culture is no longer just a buzzword. It has become what most people eat and drink literally&#8212;not because they want to, but because it's an invisible rule of society. Sort of a <strong>do it or get nothing kind of situation</strong>.<br></p><p>Some instances include working multiple jobs to meet a reasonable income threshold and the uncomfortable endurance of a toxic workplace because it's either that or going jobless. Regardless of what hustle culture means to you, we can't deny the fact that <em>it's simply the idea of us working our hats off to get through life either by coping with jobs we don't like, having several side hustles, being hyper-productive, or juggling multiple things all at once to earn an income</em>. It's still all about the hustle&#8212;sadly.<br></p><h2><strong>How Gen Zs are navigating hustle culture</strong></h2><p>This is where the plot thickens. Society says <strong>go hard or go home</strong>, Gen Zs are saying <strong>we can go soft and still get the job done</strong>. Talk about turning the tables around. Let's dissect this. As a Gen Z, sometimes life already feels harder than it should be. When I hear stories from parents and the older generation in general, it's giving we came to the world at the wrong time. How were the '90s &amp; '80s so chill to a reasonable extent? There's no doubt, life is <em>life-ing</em> and things are naturally not meant to work out the way we want them with society clamoring on so much all at once. <br></p><p>But, the order has changed. Most Gen Zs are not comfortable settling for less or keeping on with the strides of the world, not to mention capitalism and its bugging demands. In recent times, there's been a surge of younger generations <em><a href="https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSPQCwY2D/">clapping back at the idea of hustle culture and its hyper demands</a></em>. They are creating their own definition of hustle. They call it chill, soft living, and less chaotic than what society is demanding. As a Gen Z, I also do not fancy the agenda of hustle culture. I remember writing sometime in October about the <em><a href="https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/p/the-lividness-of-hustle-culture?r=s2m5j">lividness of hustle culture</a></em> and boy did I rant so bad.<br></p><h2><strong>How Gen Z women are redefining success beyond hustle culture </strong></h2><p>Gen Z women are reframing success by rejecting the hustle culture&#8217;s glorification of burnout as a necessary badge of honor. Instead, they are moving towards work practices that integrate emotional intelligence, creativity, and community impact. Many of them are prioritizing flexible work environments, mental health support, and purpose-driven careers. They use social media to promote vulnerability, self-acceptance, and diverse narratives of success. </p><p>Through the advocacy of soft life and ease, they are challenging old norms and inspiring others to find joy and meaning in their craft without sacrificing their well-being. This redefinition has encouraged a more inclusive, compassionate, and balanced vision of what success could look like for future generations.</p><h3><strong>The rise of soft ambition &amp; soft living among young women</strong> </h3><p>It&#8217;s no news that the idea of ambition and work is evolving. Gen Zs are embracing what can be called <strong>soft ambition</strong>. Unlike the traditional, aggressive drive for success which comes with relentless hustle and burnout, soft ambition is a contrast to it. It prioritizes balance, well-being, and authenticity. This new mindset is a desire for fulfillment that extends beyond career milestones to include other important things such as mental health, social connections, and personal growth. <br></p><p><strong>Soft living</strong>, as a complementary way of life, encourages slowing down, practicing self-care, and valuing experiences over constant achievement. For Gen Z women, this era means taking a step away from proving worth through productivity to cultivating a meaningful life that respects their limits and honors their unique paths.</p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/p/gen-zs-are-canceling-hustle-culture?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email&utm_content=share&action=share&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Share&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/p/gen-zs-are-canceling-hustle-culture?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email&utm_content=share&action=share"><span>Share</span></a></p><h3><strong>Social media posts &amp; notable reads on the subject </strong><br></h3><blockquote><p><em><a href="https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSPQpdXcH/">TikTok's &#8220;lazy girl jobs&#8221; trend, popularized by creator Gabrielle Judge</a></em>, promotes high-paying, low-effort remote work prioritizing mental health and flexibility.</p></blockquote><blockquote><p>A post on <em><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/laurensurman_hustle-culture-is-dead-say-hello-to-activity-7328019930912612352-r7gz?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAACYrzxkBE-sYPgMrEYX_JrFrgHQvw3PF3Ro">LinkedIn</a></em> declares &#8220;hustle culture is dead,&#8221; ushering in soft life visibility. </p></blockquote><blockquote><p><em><a href="https://mccs-journalism.gold.ac.uk/wp/pacmag/hustle-culture-vs-soft-living-how-gen-z-is-re-imagining-21st-century-word/?utm_source=perplexity">Hustle culture vs soft living: how Gen Z is re-imagining 21st century word.</a></em></p></blockquote><blockquote><p><em><a href="https://africa.businessinsider.com/news/women-are-posting-about-their-lazy-girl-jobs-on-tiktok-they-say-theres-nothing-wrong/84ml9l2">Women posting about their 'lazy girl jobs' on TikTok.</a></em></p></blockquote><p><br>As Gen Z women pioneer the era of soft ambition, they are dismantling the myth that success demands sacrificing oneself and happiness. Instead, they are showing that success can bloom from balance, boundaries, and unapologetic joy. </p><p>Through their raw stories of rest as rebellion on TikTok and Instagram with posts like &#8220;lazy girl jobs&#8221; that prioritize peace to #softliving routines rejecting the 5 AM grind, there is a booming cultural reset where well-being is taking first place. </p><p>This gentle revolution has rejected the idea of survival. It's now championing the idea of thriving easily rather than filling our days with stress and unrealistic work standards.</p><p>What's your take?</p><p>Should hustle culture still be the invisible work rule for society or are you team soft work &amp; ease?</p><div><hr></div><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Thanks for reading The Girlboss Lifestyle ! Historically, the<strong> &#8220;coquette&#8221; </strong>represented charm, playfulness, and allure; a woman both innocent and teasing. Fast forward to today, the aesthetic was revived by Tumblr&#8217;s <em>soft-girl movement</em> and has exploded on TikTok, blending with modern girlish energy. It thrives on hyper-feminine details like florals, ballet-inspired fashion, frills, and ribbons, creating a dreamy style. More than just fashion, <strong>Coquette is a cultural embrace of softness and unapologetic femininity in a world that often dismisses them.</strong></p><p>Let me also add this: &#127872; is one of my favorite emojis. While redesigning my blog&#8217;s branding (<em>check the email header</em>), I stumbled on a similar ribbon-like icon on Canva and thought, &#8220;Why not make this my blog&#8217;s icon?&#8221; I loved it because it felt so cute and feminine. Only to realize later that it&#8217;s actually a <strong>thing.</strong></p><p>Have I been tempted to cop a few items with pink bows? Definitely, yes. I&#8217;ve actually grown into my pink-hood since mid-year, so much that I now find a pink variant of almost any accessory or item I buy. Funnily, I always thought my color was red, <em>lol.</em></p><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Thanks for reading The Girlboss Lifestyle ! From the clips I&#8217;ve seen and the reactions online, I think the movie is captivating a lot of Nigerians (females especially) because of the intense love <em>delulu</em> it depicts. For some weird reason, I don&#8217;t really enjoy watching Nollywood movies that much&#8212;unless it&#8217;s a blockbuster cinematic film like <em>Seven Doors</em>, <em>Gangs of Lagos</em>, <em>Sugar Rush</em>, and the like. As much as this might sound somehow, I just find it hard to concentrate on certain Nollywood movies. Blame it on the days when my mum would buy tons of Nigerian epic movie CDs&#8212;stories about Igbo chief priests, village girls moving to the city to work as house helps and falling in love with their <em>madam&#8217;s </em>husband, or kings and palace guards forcing marriages left and right. I&#8217;ve seen enough. Thankfully, I&#8217;m not traumatized.</p><p>Although, to be fair, those movies made up a part of my childhood, and they were fun to watch. I just think I&#8217;ve outgrown them. These days, I&#8217;m more of a Hollywood action-thriller and K-drama girlie. Anything that transports me out of Nigeria to a better reality? I&#8217;m up for it.</p><p>Now, back to my movie review&#8212;which, sadly, I won&#8217;t be able to watch or experience firsthand. But from the great comments and glowing reviews, I can see why people love it. That said, I&#8217;ve also seen a few people argue that Igbo men aren&#8217;t all big talkers like Uzor&#8217;s character in the movie. Now, who&#8217;s going to tell the girlies already in search of a rich chief like Uzor? Definitely not me <em>sha</em>.</p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg" width="1124" height="274" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:274,&quot;width&quot;:1124,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:60958,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;image/jpeg&quot;,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:false,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/i/159513961?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg&quot;,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!ZUPL!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F15dd0ce4-e8f9-40b2-8a92-cb205f82d255_1124x274.jpeg 1456w" sizes="100vw"></picture><div></div></div></a></figure></div><p>I&#8217;m not too sure why this is even a debate, though. And honestly, I don&#8217;t think one character&#8217;s portrayal in a movie defines an entire tribe. Rightly so, some Igbo men could be just like Uzor&#8217;s character, while others may not be (perhaps the people complaining have met the other kind of Igbo men). I&#8217;m not here to say what is and what isn&#8217;t, but it&#8217;s been fun reading people&#8217;s takes on the movie.</p><p>So, have you watched this movie already? By the time you read this, the election may have come and gone, but this movie captures the whole electoral circus in a way that feels timeless.</p><p>For those unfamiliar, <em>God&#8217;s Not Dead</em> is a film series focused on faith, resilience, and the complex intersections of religion and society. If you&#8217;re already a fan, you&#8217;ll know each film builds on the original theme, exploring various storylines while sticking to its faith-based core. As a Christian, anything that brings me closer to my faith, especially through film, is hard to pass up.</p><p>Here are five moments that truly stood out to me in this latest installment, moments that not only reinforced my faith but also reminded me of deeper truths about life:</p><p>1. <strong>God brings mountains your way so that He can show you they can be moved.</strong> Every challenge becomes an opportunity for growth, resilience, and deeper faith.</p><p>2. <strong>Even in the darkest storms, light awaits at the end.</strong> This reminder of hope kept resurfacing, especially in moments when all seemed lost.</p><p>3. <strong>It&#8217;s not about your qualifications; it&#8217;s about who sends you.</strong> When God guides, the path is set&#8212;not by personal strength but by His power.</p><p>4. <strong>Greatness often lies just outside your comfort zone.</strong> Real growth comes when we push beyond what feels safe and familiar.</p><p>5. <strong>God surrounds you with the right people when you choose Him.</strong> The characters in the movie find allies in the most unexpected places, reflecting the importance of divine support.</p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/subscribe?utm_source=email&amp;r=&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://damilolaoderinde.substack.com/subscribe?utm_source=email&amp;r="><span>Subscribe</span></a></p><p></p><p>Beyond its inspirational message, <em>In God We Trust</em> exposes the often murky side of politics and the challenges of staying true to one&#8217;s beliefs in a world full of compromise. The movie reveals the harsh realities of the political arena but holds steady to the idea that faith prevails. It&#8217;s a beautiful reminder of the forgiving, enduring nature of Christianity and the strength of belief.</p><p>I genuinely think this is a movie worth watching&#8212;whether you&#8217;re looking to deepen your faith or seeking inspiration during challenging times.</p><p>Thanks for reading today&#8217;s post:)</p><p>Love,</p><p>Dami &#129293;</p><div I unknowingly push myself away from the world because I&#8217;m trying to build a future I haven&#8217;t seen yet. All day long, I try to be the best. I try not to waste it on meaningless tasks. I devote myself to chores, work, and brain-engaging activities. </p><p>I mean, I even watch the news, the same news I whined at my parents watching. I have the news shows stored in my head, so badly that if I really need to watch them and I&#8217;m away from the TV, I would watch them on a news app. Why? Because the world demands that I&#8217;m aware of what is going on in it (tbh, I enjoy it too). &#129760;</p><p>Capitalism, modern-day struggle, hustle and bustle culture, and standardized pressure from society are eating away at our youth, our freedom, and our joy. Nigerians know this firsthand, I can&#8217;t even begin to list what our day-to-day lives entail.</p><p>All these to say, life can be better if we can try to live a <strong>little more</strong> for ourselves beyond what life demands from us as individuals. I need to be free.</p><div class="pullquote"><p>what are your thoughts? or am I the only one who feels this way? &#129401;</p></div><h3>What&#8217;s your Girlboss highlight of the week?</h3><p>&#128105;&#127997;&#8205;&#128187; I had a successful first week at my new job which I got recently (I&#8217;m finally on my start to reaching my goals as a content writer beyond my blog).</p><p>&#129327; I have been learning French on Duolingo for the past 47 days! At its core, it serves as a practical guide for intentional living, inspiring individuals to challenge misguided societal norms and lean more into a life of meaning, growth, and fulfillment. Though the name carries a feminine touch, this publication is designed for <strong>everyone</strong>, regardless of gender. Through this, I hope to share my perspectives on living our best lives by aligning our thoughts, habits, and decisions with what truly matters. &#128149;</p><p>Thanks for being here!
